If you have a prescription with distance & near/reading numbers then you need 2 pair of glasses, one for distance and one for reading.

The good news is, varifocal glasses have a very cleverly designed lens with multiple focal points allowing you to see all distances.. Basically, you only need 1 pair of glasses for all vision needs!

Here are the 3 varifocal glasses zones in detail:

Distance:

The ‘upper’ portion of the lens provides the ‘distance’ viewing area.

Intermediate:

The distance and reading areas are connected via a ‘corridor’ of intermediate powers and provides viewing for ‘mid-range’ vision.

Near/Reading:

The ‘bottom/lower’ portion of the lens provides the ‘close up/reading’ area

We offer 3 types of varifocal lens:

  1. Standard - This is an unbranded digital lens.
  2. Premium free-form - This is a Hoya FreeForm lens.
  3. Elite free-form digital - This is the Essilor X Series Elite FreeForm lens.

The main benefits of improved varifocal lenses are:

  • Larger distance viewing areas
  • Larger reading viewing areas
  • Wider field of vision, known as the ‘corridor’
  • Less peripheral distortion

Simply put, advanced/premium/elite varifocal lenses have a wider field of vision with less peripheral distortion. They are often much easier to adapt to because of this.

How to choose varifocal glasses:

We advise selecting a frame with a large eye size - the bigger eye, the bigger the vision as you will have a wider field of view and fully benefit from the lens area - although all of our frames, small & large, are suitable to be bought with varifocal lenses.

Please don't hesitate to contact us should you require any further information regarding varifocal glasses or would like to discuss any brand of varifocal lens and one of our advisers will be happy to assist you in selecting the correct varifocal glasses for your prescription, lifestyle and budget.
